The Foundation was established in 2004 and inherited a legacy of public afforestation from Dr Montfort Trimble.

Rewanui is open to walkers year round. Please note the western part of the Matai loop is currently inaccessible because of damage from the August snowfall.

The foundation has embarked on a comprehensive series of trials to determine the performance of various species of indigenous and exotic tress that might suit the dry East Coast country. The trees are planted in blocks of about fifty and each tree is inividually identified and measured every year.
